Loneliness of the Heart

Loneliness of the Heart by Pat St. Pierre

Like stripping bark off a tree
you reveal to him your innermost thoughts;
your soul becomes naked.

He yearns to protect you
from heartache and loneliness;
to wrap his arms
around you in comfort.

Instead
his casual speech is noncommittal.

Faint sounds can be heard
in the distance like a foghorn
forewarning mariners of impending danger.

The magnetically charged air
caused you to uncover the pain.
